A New Era for Central Square: Welcome Darling
Central Square is renowned for its vibrant cultural mix and culinary innovations, and the latest addition, Darling, is set to elevate the local dining and social scene. Opening its doors on July 18th at 464 Massachusetts Avenue, this new Chinese-inspired cocktail bar promises to blend unique flavors with a nostalgic twist, striking a chord with both locals and visitors alike.
Meet the Minds Behind Darling
Darling is the brainchild of seasoned restaurateurs Brian Callahan and Zimu Chen, both veterans with impressive backgrounds in Boston’s hospitality scene. Callahan has notable experience from establishments like Tiger Mama and Row 34, while Chen's tenure at Eastern Standard and Coquette highlights his expertise in creating memorable dining experiences. Together, they aim to breathe new life into the iconic space that was previously home to Mary Chung’s, a cherished spot for over forty years.
A Unique Culinary Experience
At Darling, guests can expect a menu that pays homage to dim sum classics with creative reinterpretations. Executive Chef Mark O’Leary, whose resume includes stints at JM Curley and O Ya, brings flair to dishes such as Hong Kong Shrimp Toast and Filet O Fish Bao, ensuring that traditional flavors resonate with modern palates. In addition, the cocktail offerings are set to be hyper-seasonal and inventive, featuring daily changes that aim to surprise and delight patrons.
Setting the Scene: Atmosphere and Vibes
Darling promises more than just a meal — it aims to deliver an immersive experience. With a moody ambiance characterized by exposed brick, distressed finishes, and a hand-painted mural, the establishment is designed to be cozy yet stylish. The soundtrack features mixes of 90s hip-hop and modern pop, creating an energetic atmosphere perfect for gatherings with friends or a romantic night out.
Make a Reservation
Darling invites everyone to explore its unique take on cocktails and cuisine, now open from Tuesday to Sunday evenings. Reservations can be made via Resy, with additional updates available on their social media. Whether you’re a local or a tourist, Darling is poised to become a must-visit destination in Central Square.
